Introduction:-

                      Belly Dance is also called Raqs Sharqi, which originated in Egypt and is a Middle Eastern dance. It is referred to as Arabic Dance. It was performed during celebrations & rituals which symbolizes femininity, fertility & storytelling through movements. The dance focuses on body movements like chest, shoulders & hips.

From Egypt's golden era to modern international stages the dance has evolved because of some great personalities by their creativity, dedication and grace.

Some Great Personalities:-

1.Samia Gamal;

                        In the 1940s and 1950s she brought elegance, poise & cinematic charm to Egyptian belly dance. She was the first dancer who performed the belly dance wearing high heels with traditional Arabic movements. 

She was regarded as ‘The first Lady of Belly dance.’


2. Tahia Carioca;

                           She left a deep mark on the world of Middle Eastern dance with her fluid movements and expressive gestures. Her performance includes emotion & storytelling.

She was not only the best dancer but also a successful actress who appeared in over 100 films.


3. Naima Akef;

                       Naima Akef was multi-talented. She used to perform belly dance as well as acrobatic dance style. She performed in cinemas during 1950 and was famous as an entertainer. She started her career in the circus with her flexibility, dedication and stood out as a belly dancer.
