DANCING TO THE HEARTBEAT OF INDIA
India is a place of rich traditions, cultures & vigorous
expressions. India explains their stories through dance. From the temples of
Tamil Nadu to the festive fields of Punjab Indian dance form have been
developed over decades, contemplating spirituality, mythology & everyday
life.
Let`s have a look on Folk Dance of
India:
1.Garba & Dandiya: Garba & Dandiya is performed all over India and is mainly famous in Gujrat. It is performed during Navratri. Navratri is celebrated to mark the triumph of good over evil. Garba is performed to symbolizes the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura. Garba is a circular dance i.e. it is performed in circle and it is known for its hand & foot movements.
Dandiya is performed with two wooden
sticks facing against each other played in rhythmic patterns. Dandiya is played
in pairs and it is also known as Dandiya Raas. Girls often wear bright colour
Chanya Choli, Anarkali’s & Lahenga Choli. Boys wear Churidars or Kurtas.
The dance is performed for nine days.
3.Chhau: Chhau is a mixture of material arts, storytelling & music. This dance is originated in West Bengal, Odisha & Jharkhand. Chhau is famous for telling the stories of Ramayana and Mahabharata. Chhau includes different styles:
1.Purulia Chhau- It is originated in
West Bengal and is known for vibrant masks & high energy movements.
2.Mayurbhanj: It is originated in
Odisha. It is famous for mask less performance and focusing more on expressions
& body language.
3.Seraikella: It is originated in
Jharkhand. It is a form where dancers use soft masks with elegant expressions.
