Dance - The art of the movement

 


INTRODUCTION:

 Dance is all about steps and rhythm it is an art of

movement which shows or express emotions. Every gesture, every motion,

every step connects the story of culture, passion, and freedom.

Let’s have a look on different forms of dance;

INDIAN CLASSICAL DANCE FORMS:

1. BHARATNATYAM - Bharatnatyam is derived from Sanskrit work & It

was started in Tamil Nadu It is one of the oldest classical dance form

mainly performed in temples as a form of devotion. Bharatnatyam is a

dance which is a mixture of emotion, music and rhythm that indicates

the story of devotion. It depicts the stories like RAMAYANA and

MAHABHARATA along with stories of KRISHNA and LORD SHIVA.

Bharatnatyam is divided in three parts i.e. Nritta, Nritya and Natya

. Female dancer’s wear a beautiful saree along with Gungroo and

Gajra [flower tied on hairs]. It is performed during festivals, at

cultural centres and even at academic institutions.

2. Kathak – Kathak was origin in North India. It is derived from Sanskrit

word `Katha’ which means story. Stories are narrated through Kathak.

A typical Kathak performance includes tatkar, chakkars. The attire of

women in Kathak is lahenga choli along with gungroo, dupatta and

other jewellery and men wear kurta. `World Kathak Day’ is celebrated

on February 4 .

3. Kuchipudi-Andra Pradesh started kuchipudi dance.  Kuchipudi name is derived  by the village of Kuchipudi in Krishna district

of Andhra Pradesh. The music of Kuchipudi includes flute, violin,

tambura and a vocalist which compose Sanskrit or Telugu

compositions. Vempati Chinna Satyam is one of the famous dancer

of Kuchipudi. The father of this dance is Siddhendra Yogi. Another name for Kuchipudi dance is 

 Kusilava-Puram. The

music instruments used in Kuchipudi are cymbals,

mridangam, violin, thambura, flute. The dance is specially

known for its footwork, elegant movements and facial

expressions.

4. Manipuri – Manipur is origin of Manipuri dance. This dance is also

known as Manipuri Raas Leela i.e. it portrays the divine and beautiful

love story of Radhakrishna. The theme of Manipuri describes the life

story of Shreee Krishna's Raasleela and pure  love for

Radharani. This dance mainly focuses on upper body i.e. torso and

arms. Apart from Raasleela the other forms are Jagoi,

Cholom and Thang-ta. Popular dancers of Manipuri dance

are Guru Bipin Singh, Darshana Javeri etc.
